CPT Students And Trainers Achieve Competition Successes

Since our inception, CPT has emphasized the pet training programs within our portfolio of available services. Over 20,000 dogs have become better household companions by receiving our household manners, basic obedience and behavior modification instruction. Consequently, many people remain unaware that our prowess extends past basic pet training. Last weekend CPT’s Apprentice Training and Competition programs achieved notable accomplishments.

CPT enrolled three dog/handler teams on both Saturday and Sunday as competitors amongst nineteen entrants in the Novice A class of two American Kennel Club (AKC) dog obedience trials. On Saturday the CPT participants came in first, second, and fifth place. On Sunday the CPT entrants again swept first and second place while the remaining team received a qualifying score. We are quite proud of all our students and staff who contributed to these fine results. We are especially delighted with the efforts of the handlers and dogs who placed CPT on the pedestal.

Lee Mischiara and his German Shepherd, Britta, achieved first place finishes both days. Combined with their first and second place finish on a prior weekend, Lee and Britta earned the AKC title of C.D. Furthermore, Britta garnered additional awards as the high scoring German Shepherd in all classes on both Saturday and Sunday. The preceding successes also completed Lee’s requirements for graduation from the CPT Apprentice Training program with full Head Trainer status. In addition to training for CPT, Lee will continue as a student in our Friday morning Advanced Competition Class. We look forward to Lee and Britta achieving their AKC Open title in the spring.

Dick Shuey and his Doberman Pinscher, Emmett, achieved second place finishes both days and need just one more leg for their C.D. Moreover, Emmett was the high scoring Doberman in all classes both days. Dick was ecstatic at how he and Emmett performed in their first two shows. Emmett is a rescue dog that Dick first enrolled at CPT to improve dog aggression and socialization problems. Dick never realized how much he and Emmett would enjoy CPT Training. Beginner and Intermediate pet obedience taught Emmett basic obedience skills and provided him with more composure. On top of that, Emmett loved learning and coming to class! So, Dick continued into the Sunday morning Competition Class. He will soon progress to our Friday morning Advanced Competition Class.

Elyssa Korman has experienced many roles at CPT. She started as a student, became our corporate attorney, then started an 18 month journey through our Apprentice Training program while concurrently expanding her legal practice. Elyssa and her Samoyed, Astro, achieved a fifth place finish on Saturday and a qualifying score on Sunday. Combined with a fourth place finish in a prior event, Elyssa and Astro earned their C.D. More significantly, Elyssa graduated from the CPT Apprentice Training program with full Head Trainer status. Elyssa finds teaching Sunday group classes at Acworth a relaxing respite from her weekday court room battles. Her experiences at CPT have helped her obtain far greater enjoyment of her pet and enabled her to obtain knowledge beneficial when handling dog bite cases. Meanwhile we have gained a wonderful attorney who possess great oratory and pet training skills when educating our Sunday Acworth students.
