CPT Trainer Melissa Cate Achieves Obedience Title

On Saturday February 2, CPT Trainer Melissa Cate and her Boxer, Zeek, completed their AKC Companion Dog (CD) title. Zeek’s qualifying leg was his third of a required three legs toward his title, which included a third place finish with a score of 188. Melissa and Zeek have now started training for their Open (CDX) title.

Melissa and Zeek have also earned a United States Dog Agility Association (USDAA) Starters Snookers title and Starter Pairs Relay title and have achieved qualifying runs toward titles, including several placements and one first-place finish, from other sanctioning organizations. The USDAA currently lists Zeek as the sixth ranked agility Boxer in the Southeast.

Several years ago, at the urging of her father, who had the family’s Golden Retriever board trained at CPT, Melissa started in CPT’s pet obedience program simply to get Zeek to become a better behaved household pet. However, Melissa became intoxicated with the training process and valued the benefits she observed with Zeek. She continued through CPT’s Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Competition Obedience programs and concurrently enrolled in CPT’s Agility program.

As she progressed, Melissa inquired about career opportunities at CPT. Over the course of 18 months, Melissa completed CPT’s in-house apprentice program. Now, she has a well-behaved household pet, competition laurels, and a new career.
