In Wisconsin, Three First Place Finishes, Three High-In-Trials and New Novice Obedience Title for CPT Competition Student

CPT competition obedience student Mary Ann Butler recently achieved an unbeaten and near perfect performance over a three-day Wisconsin weekend. On Friday, October 12, Mary Ann and her female Rottweiler Dessa, earned a FIRST PLACE finish at the Novice B level with a score of 196.5 at the Medallion Rottweiler Club National Specialty held in Jefferson, Wisconsin. Dessa’s 196.5 score accomplished the first leg toward her AKC Novice (CD) title and a prestigious HIGH-IN-TRIAL award. On Saturday, October 13, Mary Ann and Dessa earned their second Novice leg, another FIRST PLACE finish and another HIGH-IN-TRIAL with a score of 194.5.

However, she and Dessa saved their best for last. On Sunday, October 14, Mary Ann and Dessa earned their third and final leg for their AKC NOVICE (CD) TITLE, a third consecutive FIRST PLACE finish, and a THIRD CONSECUTIVE HIGH-IN-TRIAL with an amazing NEAR PERFECT SCORE OF 199.5 out of a possible 200 points! On Friday, Mary Ann and Dessa defeated 23 Novice entries. On Saturday, they defeated 15 Novice entries and, on Sunday, they defeated 16 Novice entries. Thus, they defeated 54 Novice dog/handler teams and numerous Open and Utility teams each day of the long weekend!

After beginning in CPT’s pet program, Mary Ann started with CPT Competition Coach Karen Smalley when Dessa was 8 months old. Dessa just turned 2 years of age and is exhibiting the maturity required to effectively exhibit the benefits of Karen’s sapient coaching and Mary Ann’s diligent handling. We look forward to Mary Ann and Dessa continuing their successes into the Open and Utility levels.

CPT has several other dogs of various breeds preparing to show in ASCA and AKC competition over the next year. In the past, CPT has coached students to titles and placements with small breeds, such as a Toy Poodle, a Boston Terrier, and a Tolling Retriever; mid-size breeds, such as a Samoyed, a Boxer, a Border Collie and several mixed breeds, German Shepherds, Labrador Retrievers, and Golden Retrievers; and large breeds, such as a Great Dane. Competition obedience is great fun and provides an exciting avenue for continuing your pet’s training past the Intermediate level.
