Claire Sims

Claire Sims has a passionate mission to reduce the shelter population.  As a CPT Trainer, Claire accomplishes her quest  by fostering strong bonds and clear communication between dogs and their owners. Claire’s understanding of animal behavior and passion for positive training methods furthers her commitment for dogs and dog owners to lead fulfilling lives together.

After earning a Bachelor in Fine Arts (BFA) degree from The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), Claire Sims discovered her calling in the world of dogs while volunteering at Canine Assistants.  During this time, Claire worked closely with service dogs.  She realized the incredible impact a service animal has on a disabled person’s independence and quality of life.  Inspired by this experience, Claire pursued further dog training education through CPT.

In the summer of 2024, Claire joined CPT’s apprentice program.   The CPT Apprentice Program refined Claire’s skills in dog training, behavior modification, and client education.  Claire’s approach is rooted in empathy, patience, and techniques that build rapport between dogs and their owners.

Since Claire loves both dogs and cats, during her apprentice period Claire also learned about feline training and behavior modification.  Claire has participated in lessons covering feline anxiety, dog-cat relations, cat-cat aggression, and litter box infractions.

In her personal time, Claire Sims helps feral cats in her community.  She and a group of friends actively participate in Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts that stabilize the local cat population.  Furthermore, Claire adopted a cat from a local feral colony and found a home for another.

Claire shares her home with two beloved cats, Macie and Pepper, who have been invaluable companions in her training journey.  Proving cats are smart, too, Claire trained Macie and Pepper to sit, stay, come, roll over, and touch. They serve as perfect examples of how positive reinforcement and patience create lasting changes in pet behavior.

Whether you’re looking to address behavioral challenges, enhance communication, or simply deepen your bond with your dog or cat, Claire is dedicated to helping both you and your furry companion thrive. Claire Sims provides private lesson, in-home private lesson, and board train services for CPT.
