CPT Students And Trainer Achieve Competition Successes

Since our inception CPT has trained the pets of over 21,000 Atlanta area customers. The vast majority arrive at CPT to obtain better trained household companions. They may complete a Beginner and Intermediate Group Class, some Private Lessons or a Board Train and feel their goals are met. However, some become so enthralled with the activity of dog training that they want to continue onward both for the joy of the activity and the benefits of added skills. CPT’s Competition Program provides an excellent avenue for persons and dogs who wish to continue past the basic pet level. Plus, they have a lot of FUN when they win!

Last Saturday CPT enrolled three dog/handler teams in the Newnan Kennel Club AKC dog obedience trials. In the Novice A class CPT students swept first and second place out of eight entrants and in the Novice B class CPT took second place out of eighteen entrants, missing first by just one half of a point.

Kit Kerr and her Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, Shadee, took first place in Novice A with a score of 185 out of a possible 200 points. Eileen Retel and her Golden Retriever, Boomer, took second place with a score of 180. Kit and Eileen were ecstatic with their successes, especially considering it was their first trial!

Karen Smalley and her Border Collie, Casey, took second place in Novice B with an outstanding score of 194.5. You may know Karen as both a CPT Trainer and a student in our Advanced Competition Class. Karen is completing her second title as she has previously titled her Border Collie, Abby.

CPT has also achieved success in Agility competitions. CPT Agility Trainer Jessa Sacco and her German Shepherd Dog, Piper, won three competitions in March. Assistant Agility Trainer Holly Schmidt and her Toy Poodle, Pippin, won one competition at the Excellent level and achieved 30 points toward their Masters Agility Championship (MACH). In addition, Holly’s daughter, Sierra, and her Bichon Frise, Balto, won one competition.
