October and November 2003 have been the best months yet for CPT’s Competition Program. CPT achieved first place scores in each class students entered and on one occasion swept first, second, and third place!
On Saturday, October 25 CPT enrolled six dog/handler teams in the Kennesaw Kennel Club AKC dog obedience trials held at Jim Miller Park in Marietta. In the Novice B class, CPT student Karen Smalley and her Border Collie, Casey, accomplished first place and tied for high-in-trial with an outstanding score of 198 out of a possible 200 points. Eileen Retel and her Golden Retriever, Boomer, took third place with an excellent score of 193. Kit Kerr and her Nova Scotia Tolling Retriever, Shaydee, also qualified with a score in the mid 180’s.
In the Novice A class CPT swept first through third place! Kori Bevis and her Labrador Retriever, Harley, won first place with a score of 192.5. Jennifer Falkner and her Boston Terrier, Hampton, were right behind in second place. Christina Shrake and her Golden Retriever, Dakota (who can also be seen nationally performing in a television commercial for Invisible Fence), followed in third place.
On Sunday, October 26 the Kennesaw Kennel Club held another AKC event at Jim Miller Park. CPT achieved similar success. Karen Smalley rested Casey. Nevertheless, Eileen and Boomer continued CPT’s consistent pedestal finishes. Eileen and Boomer’s performance increased 5 points to a total of 198, which cemented first place both days for CPT in Novice B. Kit and Shaydee again qualified as well.
In Novice A, CPT swept first and second place. Kori and Harley repeated their first place finish with a commendable score of 193. Christina and Dakota took second place with a 191. As an added bonus, Kori and Harley achieved their third leg, which earned them the AKC title of Companion Dog (CD).
CPT also achieved victory out of state. On November 8, Emery Deyo and her Golden Retriever, Hudson, achieved first place with a score of 191.5 in a contest held in Asheville, North Carolina.
On November 15, Christina and Dakota won first place with an excellent score of 195.5 in an Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA) obedience trial held in Chamblee
We are proud of our teachers and students who have demonstrated consistently laudable results. We look forward to expanding our Competition Program until we are undoubtedly number one in competition training as well as in pet training.
