CPT Students Win at AKC Trials

CPT’s competition obedience team continued its record of successes at the Cherokee Rose Cluster of American Kennel Club (AKC) trials that occurred this past weekend in Atlanta. We had nine dogs entered during the combination of shows that occurred from Friday January 30 through Sunday February 1. The results were outstanding. Four of the nine CPT dogs achieved placements, including a total of five first place finishes for two of the dogs.

Karen Smalley and her Border Collie, Casey, won the Open A class all three days and achieved their Companion Dog Excellent (CDX) title in three consecutive shows. Three shows, a title, and three first place finishes, including a high score of 198 out of a possible 200 points in Saturday’s show. Karen and Casey certainly had a weekend to remember!

Also showing at the Open level, were Jennifer Falkner and her Boston Terrier, Hampton; Elyssa Korman and her Samoyed, Astro; Dick Shuey and his Doberman, Emmett; and Mark Spivak who showed Lanny and Kristin Nixon’s Labrador Retriever, Houston, at the Open B level.

CPT also achieved victory at the Novice level. Christina Shrake and her Golden Retriever, Dakota, finished second on Friday and first on Saturday and Sunday in the Novice A class, including a high score of 196. Christina and Dakota also achieved their AKC Companion Dog (CD) title. Emery Deyo and her Golden Retriever, Hudson, showed on Friday only in Novice B and achieved a fourth place finish with a 195. Eileen Retel and her Golden Retriever, Boomer, showed on Saturday only in Novice B and achieved third place out of more than thirty dogs with an outstanding 196. Kit Kerr and her Nova Scotia Tolling Retriever, Shadee, also showed on Saturday and achieved an excellent 192 that unfortunately was not high enough for placement. Emery, Eileen, and Kit have previously achieved CD titles on their dogs.
